Service in AA

One of the results of the Recovery we receive from working the Steps is the opportunity to be a part of the Unity of the Fellowship. Another is the opportunity to be of service – because we are changed into people who give instead of people who just take.

The dictionary defines legacy as ‘something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past’ – a gift, in other words, from those who have gone before. Our Three Legacies are gifts handed down to us. We receive the gift of Recovery when we work the Steps. We receive the Gift of Unity when we cling together in love and work together to keep our Fellowship alive.

We receive the Gift of Service when we act for someone else’s benefit rather than our own – because we are now people who can do something for someone else.

Perhaps you are still not sure that you are an alcoholic, or if you really want help with your drinking?Remember that there are no dues or fees for A.A., and we don’t keep any records of who comes or who leaves. You are welcome to come along to a meeting and see what is being said, and we won’t bother you if you decide that you don’t want what we have to offer; so you have nothing to lose and possibly everything to gain.If you prefer e-mail as a means of contact then feel free to email us at help@alcoholics-anonymous.eu we have a team of volunteers who have experienced the problems that losing control of your drinking can bring, they are only too pleased to be willing to help.Or you can simply turn up at one of our meetings – click on this link to find one near you. We strongly suggest that when you arrive you let someone know that this is your first meeting, that way they will be able to provide you with information that most people new to AA find useful. If you can’t find a meeting near you there are also English language on-line meeings, more information can be found here.We also have an English speaking telephone helpline available on the German telephone network, where you can talk to someone who has experience of the problems that alcohol abuse can cause and the solution that A.A. has to offer.
